Every Kinmon is either on your squad or working a job, the game's own rule, and its central tension.

Jobs pay Essence, and Essence is levels. But a pair only builds a Bond by fighting side by side, and a bonded pair learns a move only the two of them can do.

Levels are rented. Bonds are earned. You cannot buy either with the other.
